In case you were wondering why I have been so M.I.A lately, it’s because I have been working on the Holly In The City website. It is something I have been wanting to do for the past year, and now it’s finally happening.
Thank-you to everyone for reading so far and please visit my new website!
Nothing signals the end to a very, very long monday like a cup of tea.
Getting back into the swing of things can be tough, especially after the holidays. You spend Christmas eating, sleeping in, getting pampered by your mom, eating some more, reading a book and spending hours trying to knit a rectangle. Before you know it, it’s 2014 and time to accomplish some pretty big things.
This is my rectangle.
If your Monday back to work was anything like mine, I feel your pain. Quite literally. I may have smashed my elbow after trying to keep my balance on the skating rink sidewalks home. I also may have forgotten to blend the kale in my smoothie that I took to work this morning. Yum. That was pretty much the theme of the day.
All the challenging moments in a day really are insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Sometimes you just need to take the time to remember that with a cup of tea. Tea is my cure for almost everything, including the challenging cold winter Mondays.
I am now at home, cozy in my cheetah onsie with a cup of the Tea Granny’s Provence Rooibos tea and the last few chapters of a really good book infront of me.
After a wonderful two weeks of rest, family, eating and total disconnect, I feel ready to take on the 2014!
Reflecting on 2013 I came to the realization that I was completely exhausted from everything that happend. Basically my entire life changed…for the better. I started my career and fell in love with the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. Whew. I Really couldn’t be any happier.
Some people make a lot of resolutions for the new year, others make none. I choose to theme each year, a great idea I took from Danika that has served me well. Last year’s theme was “the year of self discovery“. That carried me through the entire year as I faced challenge after challenge, learning something very valuable from each one.
The two weeks I had off allowed me to read, reflect and think about what I wanted from 2014.
A man is someone who respects and loves women because that is his automatic reaction.
A boy is someone who acts like he respects and loves women because he will get something out of it.
A man is someone who talks about his feelings or issues.
A boy is someone who hides from them or faces them with anger.
A man is someone who wants to cuddle you at night despite the fact he is going to wake up with a face full of hair, a numb arm and strain in his neck.
A boy is someone who rolls over.
A man is someone who will listen to a woman and consider what she is saying.
A boy is someone who avoids conversation or tells her what to feel.
A man forgives when mistakes are made.
A boy brings them up again, and again.
I feel very lucky to have found a man to live my life with, but he was extremely hard to find. My heart hurts to watch my friends and other women go through pain and suffering at the hands of boys. Women are not perfect, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to be loved and respected in a healthy way.
Boys acting as men: Get over your issues and grow up. The way a woman will love you when you become a man is 100% worth it. Happiness is around the corner, but the change starts with you. I challenge you to open doors, listen to what she is saying and put her before your wants and needs. Chances are she will be more than happy to return the love and respect you show her.
A flouncy full tulle skirt is something that every woman that loves to feel feminine should have in her wardrobe. Ever since I can remember I have LOVED wearing pretty full skirts. Dress up was a huge part of my childhood, and is still a huge part of my life today. The only difference is I get to call it fashion now.
Here are some great ways to incorporate a tulle skirt into your wardrobe:
1. Wear it with a simple black long sleeve shirt and black pump heels. Perfect for date night, dinner with the girls or artsy wine tasting events.
2. Pair it with a sheer white blouse, a blazer and some cute flats for a great office look.
3. This is my favourite look. Wear your tulle skirt with sexy black pumps, a plaid shirt and a huge chunky necklace. One of the cutest things you can put together in the fall. This is a great go to for fashion shows and fashion based events.
4. Pair it with a powder pink blazer. It’s the perfect late winter/early spring outfit for sunday brunch.
If you are anything like my family at Christmas, you are going to love this little bit of insider information.
My family is big on stockings. After everyone surpassed the age of 18 we kind of stopped doing gifts. Why? Because we are adults and Christmas is about spending time together now. However, we still do stockings!
I am always on the lookout for stocking stuffers that my family members actually could use all year round. Last year my mom bought me a tiny little spatula that I actually use all the time for various cooking projects.
I was walking past Optical Depo today when I saw their $5, $10 and $15 table of items that everyone needs. I picked up this great little lens cleaner travel kit:
If you are buying stocking stuffers for anyone with glasses, you need to stop off here. This is the perfect thing for those who are going on a winter holiday. I personally get so annoyed when I’m on the beach and get sunscreen all over my glasses. Plain water and tissue paper just doesn’t take it off!
Optical Depo is located in the concourse level of Scotia Plaza.
Beautiful Lingerie, the one thing that every woman needs to own. But, not just because it will drive your significant other crazy, but for your own personal indulgence.
I love Marlies Dekkers Lingerie. I wrote about the Golden Karo bra in a previous posts, as it is one of the most beautiful bras I have ever seen. However, wearing gold plated cups may not be that realistic for regular wear.
Let me introduce you to the basic design of Marlies Dekkers Bras:
Don’t you just love it?! Classy with an edgy twist. The person that is lucky enough to see you in this set will love it too!
Don’t see the sense in buying something that only you and select few people will see? SJP shows us a great way to make your classic LBD pop by adding a Marlies Dekkers Bra.
I’m thinking Marlies Dekkers is going to be on a lot of Christmas Wish lists this year!
If you would like to try a few styles on to see how they work with your body, join me at Brava Boutique on December 11th, 2013 for their Marlies Dekkers Fit Event.
